SuperintendentDan Troxell, Ph.D.

Dan Troxell, Ph.D., is in his second year as the Leander ISD superintendent. Before coming to LISD, Troxell served as superintendent of Kerrville ISD for 13 years.

Prior to his tenure in KISD, Troxell served as an assistant superintendent in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. He earned a Bachelor's of Arts with honors, and subsequently a Ph.D., from the University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, Troxell earned a master's degree in education from Texas State University in San Marcos. He began his career in education as a middle school teacher, later serving as a middle and high school assistant principal, and as a high school principal in both Allen and Cypress-Fairbanks ISDs.

Troxell was named the 2008 Texas Association of School Boards Superintendent of the Year. He was also named the 2006 Region 20 Advocate of the Gifted, and in 1997, he was named the Dallas Morning News reader-selected Best Principal. During his career, he has taught courses in school finance as an adjunct professor and as a part-time professor at Schreiner University, Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston.

Troxell serves on the UIL Legislative Council, where he chairs the standing committee on Academics; and the Texas Association of School Boards Risk Management Fund Board.

Troxell and his wife, Shelley, have two college-aged sons.

Following a public hearing last week, the LISD Board of Trustees approved of the use of unassigned epinephrine on district campuses in accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC). Our intention is to have this important health care tool in place during the next school year.

Leander ISD partners with local law enforcement to keep students safe

The LISD Board of Trustees recently renewed our inter-local agreements with the cities of Cedar Park and Leander to provide Student Resource Officers assigned to our schools, just as they have for the past 20 years.
